When Hearts Grow Cold
[Verse 1:]
You condemn the murderer without condemning yourself
You ignore your hypocrisy and put it up on your shelf
Can't you see that you are no better?
In the eyes of the Judge, all sins equal murder
You ignore and then you increase your fervor
Open your eyes, you hypocrites!
[Chorus:]
When hearts grow cold, men do grow bold.
What's in the heart, from the lips depart.
The world today has gone astray,
They turn from Him, and love their ways...
When hearts grow cold!
[Verse 2:]
Stop wearing the robes of the Pharisees
Because your self-righteous judgement condemns thee
They without sin may cast the first stone!
Do you really think salvation is restricted?
Your 'truths' are twisted, reality conflicted
Grace is a gift to ALL of mankind.
[Chorus x2]
[Finale:]
'As far as the east is from the west' He said
He forgets our sins so that we may keep our heads
We are all pardoned murderers and thieves.
So use your mind before condemning a man
And consider your own crimes written in the sand
And similar to the One, forgive and forget.
You condemn the murderer without condemning yourself
You ignore your hypocrisy and put it up on your shelf
Can't you see that you are no better?
In the eyes of the Judge, all sins equal murder
You ignore and then you increase your fervor
Open your eyes, you hypocrites!
[Chorus:]
When hearts grow cold, men do grow bold.
What's in the heart, from the lips depart.
The world today has gone astray,
They turn from Him, and love their ways...
When hearts grow cold!
[Verse 2:]
Stop wearing the robes of the Pharisees
Because your self-righteous judgement condemns thee
They without sin may cast the first stone!
Do you really think salvation is restricted?
Your 'truths' are twisted, reality conflicted

[Chorus x2]
[Finale:]
'As far as the east is from the west' He said

And similar to the One, forgive and forget.
Notes from the author
The story behind this poem-turned-lyrics is that I needed a way to let out my frustration with the way that people treat murderers and criminals: with a hateful, judgemental attitude, wishing the worst upon them. Worst still, is that many Christians (people I'm supposed to be calling my brothers and sisters in Christ) hop on the train and act the same way. I wrote this poem in response to all of that frustration, and it's primarily aimed at the Christians who point their fingers at others, even the worst of criminals, wishing bad things upon them- yet what they fail to realize is that every Christian is a pardoned criminal themselves, so we are no better. In the sight of the Law, all of us stand equally guilty, and thus we're equally in need of the Savior, so instead of putting others down (no matter what they've done), we should be acting like Jesus did, and forgive and lift up those who are in need of Him.
